Summer Time is an Ideal Time to Apply an Acrylic Roof Coating System

Posted by Nicole Gale on Tue, Jun 21, 2016 @ 11:52 AM

sun.jpgAcrylic roof coating systems are able to deliver a fully restored, seamless, watertight, reflective roofing membrane directly on top of your existing aged and failing roof substrate. These restoration and maintenance systems allow you to avoid a costly roof tear-off and you are able keep your business open during installation, avoiding disruptions to your daily work environment.

Hot, dry weather conditions are ideal for installing an acrylic roof coating system. Acrylic coatings require temperatures to be above 50˙F and should only be applied if weather will permit drying prior to any exposure to rain. This makes summer time an ideal time to restore your aged roof. If you have a BUR, asphalt, mod bit, Hypalon®, EPDM, TPO, PVC, single-ply, metal, spray polyurethane foam (SPF) or concrete roof substrate, you can restore your commercial roof with one of our AcryShield acrylic roof coating systems.

With their highly reflective capabilities, a white acrylic roof coating will provide excellent energy savings to your building during the hot summer months. These coatings reflective a majority of the sun’s heat away from the building, back into the atmosphere, allowing the building to absorb a very minimal amount of heat. This keeps the inside of the building at a cooler, more comfortable temperature, while using less air conditioning, saving on your energy utility bill.

5 Money Saving Benefits of using a White Roof Coating

Roofs come in many different colors – black, white, gray, sand, as well as custom colors. While colored roofs can aid in the aesthetics of the exterior of your building, white roof coatings provide the greatest amount of cost benefits.

  1. Reduced roof maintenance costs
White roof coatings contain UV blocking pigments to protect your roof from the sun's destructive UV rays, which happen to be the leading cause of roof degradation.

  2. Need Help? Contact a Roofing  Professional  Zero ObligationLower air conditioning usage and costs
The UV blocking pigments also reflect a majority of the sun’s heat away from the building, allowing your building to remain cooler while using less air conditioning. This results in lower utility bills and a longer life span for your current air conditioning system. Studies show you can save a total of 7-15% of total cooling costs by using a white roof coating. Harbor Freight Tools installed a National Coatings white roof coating system and was pleased at the noticeably lower air temperature they experienced in their warehouse after the system was installed – click here to check it out.

  3. Rebates
Depending on where you live, you can qualify for utility rebates. DSIRE is has excellent Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency®

  4. Avoid a costly roof tear-off
AcryShield white roof coatings can extend your roof indefinitely and are 50-70% less cost than replacing your roof. You are able to keep your business open as usual during installation to avoid any lose in sales or production.

  5. Quick installation
White roof coatings are spray applied directly over the existing, aged roofing substrate allowing contractors to save on installation time and building owners save money.

Are Roof Coatings A Paint?

Posted by Nicole Gale on Thu, Jan 21, 2016 @ 11:00 AM

roof coatingsThe short answer is “no”. Although, roof coatings look like paint, they are created using different ingredients based on a different class of acrylic chemistry.

Roof coatings, such as acrylic elastomeric roof coatings have a unique set of performance criteria. Typically paint does not require resistance to ponded water, reflectivity properties, flexibility at low temperature, ability to expand and contract, and protection against foot traffic. But an elastomeric roof coating does require these properties. The roof sits on a relatively horizontal surface (a low slope roof), tolerating many external stresses and water contact for an extended time.

These acrylic roof coatings are usually white in color. The bright white coating provides two unique features that allow it to be called a Cool Roof. First, it reduces the temperature of the roof membrane to which it is applied. The reduction in temperature coupled with the UV blocking properties of the coating, reduces the degradation and deterioration of the roofing membrane, enabling it to last longer. The bright white coating can also reflects as much as 92% of the heat (learn more about AcryShield Ultra-High Reflectance) portion of the sunlight, reducing the heat transfer into the building, which lowers energy usage and reduces air conditioning costs.
