Challenge - Severely Deteriorating, Leaking Roof
  • 10 year old failing PVC membrane.
  • Numerous cracks and badly crazed.
  • Over 250 documented leaks.
  • Provide a sustainable roofing system with excellent adhesion and resistance to plasticizer, (a key component in PVC roofing membranes that prevents cracking) migration.
Solution - AcryPly® Restoration System
  • Seamless, energy efficient roofing system featuring a fully adhered, leak free 120 mil membrane.
  • Evening installation with heavy dew that CA_Lottery_After_2deposited on the roof during the evening was completed using AcryShield Quick Set roof coating.
  • Costly recover or tear-off was not required; repairs and coating were completed at only a fraction of the cost of a recover roof.
  • Substantial energy savings.

With their new National Coatings AcryPly Cool Roof System, California Lottery Commission has restored a severely leaking PVC roof, avoided spending a substantial amount of money on a tear off and gained energy efficiency by reducing air conditioning costs and the production of greenhouse gases.

"The collaboration for the project with National Coatings was very helpful along the way. The change to the Quick Set product was accomplished on the fly an was a seamless effort due to the intimate association during the life cycle of the project. (Would not have been successful otherwise as the timing was at the very end of the season)."
- Anthony J. Berzinas, Facilities Project Manager at California Lottery Commission

Lo
oking for Fast Setting Roof Coatings?
We have Base and Top Coats That Allow
You to Resist Early
Wash-Off Associated
with Light Rain and Heavy Dew

AcryShield® Quick Set roof coatings are exclusively designed to prevent early wash-off related to light rain and heavy dew weather conditions. The full line of AcryShield Quick Set base coat and top coat products can be applied on nearly all roofing substrates. These watertight coatings not only allow for quick installation but also deliver a non-intrusive application process, a renewable system that can be maintained periodically to avoid a costly and timely roof tear-off, they are cost effective and provide reduced roof maintenance throughout the systems lifespan.

AcryShield Quick Set products offer contractors peace-of-mind when conditions like heavy dew and light rain are forecast soon after initial application has begun. If necessary, any of the AcryShield standard coatings can be exchanged with these Quick Set coatings after a job has begun to ensure a speedy set-up and proper application.

The Quick Set base and top coats can be used in our AcryShield Roof Management (ARM) Systems for roof maintenance, our AcryPly Roofing Systems for roof restoration, our AcryShield Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Systems for restoration/new construction and on our AcryPly-D Deck Up Systems for new construction/tear-offs.

  • BASE COATS
    • AcryShield A602 is a quick-set base coat with low VOC's.  This high performance base coat has the technology to coat directly over hard to coat substrates such as Hypalon, TPO, and EPDM. A602 eliminates the need for costly TPO and PVC membrane replacement, and pre-treating EPDM with a caustic solution before the coating is applied.
    • AcryShield A603 is a quick-set base coat with low VOC's. It is a water borne coating for surfaces such as Concrete, BUR, Mod Bit, and Asphalt Emulsion. A603 has superior protection against ponded water.

  • TOP COATS
    • AcryShield A600 is a premium elastomeric quick-set top coat that has optimum adhesion over SPF, Metal and Concrete and is excellent where extra levels of low temperature flexibility are required. A600 exceeds ASTM D6083 requirements for critical properties such as tensile strength, elongation, wet adhesion, and weatherability. It also includes a fire retardant package.
    • AcryShield A610 is a premium quick-set top coat that has optimum adhesion to SPF and is excellent where extra levels of low temperature flexibility are required. A610 can be coated over a variety of other surfaces as well, including Asphalt, Single-Ply, Metal, and Concrete. A610 exceeds ASTM D6083 requirements.

Can Roof Coating Systems be Installed During Wintertime?

Posted by Nicole Gale on Tue, Dec 16, 2014 @ 12:00 PM

rain-resized-600

There are a few important weather conditions to consider before applying a roof coating system to your building in the winter and shoulder seasons. These requirements include:

  • Always check weather conditions before application and never apply if rain is anticipated within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Air temperatures should be at a minimum of 55˚F with temperatures expected to rise for the following 24 hours. This includes temperatures during nighttime.
  • Apply the roof coating system in the early morning, finishing early into the afternoon to allow for a minimum of four hours of sunlight for the coating or sealants to cure.

Need Help? Contact a Roofing  Professional  Zero ObligationAreas such as California, Hawaii, Texas, Arizona and Florida often have warm winter temperatures averaging between 60˚F to 90˚F in January. As long as these temperatures do not drop below 55˚F during the evening and rain is not expected, these weather conditions are acceptable for installing a roof coating system during the winter.

While weather conditions and temperature need to be ideal before application begins, it is also important to keep in mind:

  • Base and top coats need 8 to 24 hours to dry completely (this is dependent on weather conditions). No roof coating systems shall be applied if weather will not permit it to dry prior to exposure to precipitation or freezing.
  • Dew and fog can interfere with and damage coatings from properly curing.
  • Coatings must be stored between 40˚F – 90˚F. Do not leave coatings or sealants on the rooftop if temperatures are expected to drop below 45˚F.

National Coatings has a full line of Quick Set roof coatings that are uniquely formulated to allow you to work in the "shoulder" season.  The AcryShield Quick Set base and topcoats sets up rapidly and provide assurance to building owners and contractors that no early wash-off associated with heavy dew and light rain will occur. These coatings can be applied on virtually any roofing substrate including: Asphalt, BUR, Mod Bit, Concrete, Single-Plies, Hypalon, EPDM, TPO, PVC, and Metal.
