4 Factors that make a Roof Coating System Environmentally Friendly

  1. Energy Efficiency – Cool Roof coating systems high in reflectivity decrease the use of air-conditioning, lowering CO2 and other emissions from being released into the air. The reflective and emissive properties of a Cool Roof also reduce Urban Heat Island Effect, decreasing smog formation and respiratory illness. What constitutes an Urban Heat Island? According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the difference in temperature when urban and suburban areas experience elevated temperatures compared to their outlying rural surroundings. This can be illustrated by comparing a cool roof, which can remain approximately 50 to 60˚F cooler than a traditional roof, which can reach temperatures of 150 to 185˚F. The hot temperatures of the traditional roof creates a hot surface area on the rooftop that then heats up the surrounding air temperatures, causing an Urban Heat Island. Visit the CRRC for a directory of highly reflective roofing products – Here are National Coatings listed products.
  1. Sustainable - Landfills are overly congested in the United States. As a Nation, we are striving to “recycle”, “reuse” and “go green”. Restoring your existing roof (opposed to tearing it off, disposing of it and starting new) is an excellent way to recycle and reuse your current building materials. Many of National Coatings’ roof coating systems are renewable every 10 to 15 years after the first roof coating system is installed. Allowing you to avoid a roof replacement/tear-off indefinitely! Download our FREE Product and Application Brochure for more information!
  1. ZERO or Ultra Low VOC’s – Volatile Organic Content (VOC) contain strong and potentially harmful odors that are released into the atmosphere during application. After undergoing extensive research and laboratory testing, National Coatings has removed all or most of the VOC’s from our roof coatings. Click here for a list of these coatings with ultra low or even zero VOC’s.
  1. LEED Compliant – The LEED program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) established by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) focuses on building with construction materials that have a limited impact on the environment, as well as, the use of recycled materials.  National Coatings has several LEED Compliant Roofing Products that meet the standards set for Sustainable Sites, Energy & Atmosphere, and Materials & Resources.

Our AcryShield roof coating systems meet the standards set by ASTM, AIA, FM, ICC-ES, ENERGY STAR, CRRC, Miami-Dade County, and LEED.  There is no better choice when looking to restore your roof than by choosing an environment friendly or green roof system. The benefits are incomparable. For more information on roof coating systems, download our FREE Considering Coatings – A Free Guide to Roof Coatings Brochure.

National Coatings knows how important it is to be environmentally-friendly and conscious of our carbon footprint. We constantly evaluate our products and ingredients to improve their capabilities of sustainability, energy efficiency and reduction of toxins emitted into the atmosphere. After many experiments and laboratory testing's, we are proud to offer both a roof restoration system - AcryPly System, and a roof maintenance system - ARM System, where each offers excellent sustainability and renewability, increased energy efficiency and conservation and ULTRA low VOC's (Volatile Organic Content).

Restoration System - AcryPly Roof Restoration for TPO

  • Where roof substrates are smooth, such as with an existing TPO roof membrane, an all acrylic AcryShield system may be used.
  • Polyester fabric across the entire roof field creates an extremely durable reinforcing layer.
  • AcryShield A502 ultra-low VOC - 0.5 base coat provides unique AcryLock™ technology to tenaciously adhere directly to TPO without the need for additional primers or an etching rinse.
  • A502 base coat provides an additional layer of waterproofing, superior adhesion, and resistance to ponded water.
  • AcryShield A500 or QuickSet version A600, contain ZERO VOC's, provides industry leading UV protection, longevity and brightness. These top coats are formulated for superior dirt pick-up resistance and protection against biological attach, such as algae.
  • A500 exceeding all ASTM D6083 requirements.
  • QuickSet A600 exceeds ASTM D6083 requirements for critical properties such as tensile strength, elongation, wet adhesion and weatherability.

Why We Love Re Roofing (And You Should, Too!)

Re Roofing saves money

Adding a roof coating system to restore your existing aged or failing roof is 50-70% less costly than a tradition roof replacement. Roof coating systems do not require you to close your business during application, allowing you to conduct business as usual and create sales during the installation phases.

Re Roofing saves time

Installing a roof coating system is much less labor intensive as a roof tear-off. A roof tear-off requires tearing off the existing roof substrate, gathering and removing the old roof from the site to a landfill, and then following up with the new construction to build the new roof. These stages require business closures and ideal weather conditions. Installing a roof coating system is minimally disruptive - no seams welding, drilling or nailing is done during installation and no odors or harsh chemicals are used to apply the coating system. It is sprayed on in stages ranging from 3 steps to 5 steps depending on the roof coating system you choose. There are even products such as the AcryShield Quick Set base and top coats, that allow you to apply the coating system during times of light rain and heavy dew – minimizing certain weather related delays.

Re Roofing is Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly

Landfills in America are overly congested. We as a Nation are constantly trying to “recycle”, “reuse” and “go green”. Restoring your existing roof opposed to tearing it off, disposing of it and starting new, is an excellent way to recycling and reusing your current building materials. Many AcryShield roof coatings are LEED compliant for sustainable sites, energy and atmosphere, and materials and resources. AcryShield also has a line of roof coatings that product ZERO VOC’s or volatile organic content – check them out! Many roof coating systems are renewable down 10 to 15 years after the first roof coating system is installed. This allows you to avoid a roof replacement/tear-off indefinitely!

Re Roofing is the Obvious Choice

It is no wonder why we believe re roofing is the best choice for fixing your aged or leaking commercial roof. With money and time savings, as well as, environmental benefits, roof restoration systems are the most ideal. To find out if you can benefit from one of these systems, contact us today!
