National Coatings has the unique ability to address the difficulties and failures that aged single-ply roofing experiences. Most roof coatings require caustic primers, acid etching agents, or high VOC solvents that need to be rinsed off and sometimes collected for disposal, adding additional cost to a roof life extension project. NCC's products have the unique ability to coat to single-ply roofing membranes without the need to use any of these harmful products. Our state of the art single-ply coating systems adhere directly to single-ply substrates providing a monolithic membrane without any of the seams that can be prone to failure. Coating restorations do no count as a new roof under most building codes, eliminating the need for periodic and costly tear-off's. This process allows for a truly sustainable roofing system by performing coating maintenance every 10 years.

3 Ways to Determine if Your Single-Ply Roof Needs a Roof Restoration System

Posted by Nicole Gale on Tue, Jun 02, 2015 @ 11:30 AM

singleply-before-coatingIt is always best to be proactive in regards to fixing and restoring your commercial roof; however, this does not always happen because the roof is “out of sight, out of mind” making it easily the most skipped over element in properly maintaining a building.  The good news is more than likely it is not too late to restore or maintain your existing single-ply roof to new. Roof restoration systems extend the lifespan of your roof, lower roof maintenance costs and if maintained properly in the future, can avoid a costly and timely roof tear-off indefinitely.

Lets dive into the most common signs that your single-ply needs a roof restoration system.

Leaks
The most obvious of all - when water penetrates the inside of your building you need to do something quickly. Determining the location of the leak can sometimes be difficult but a professional roof inspector can help.

Deterioration covers several different aspects. If you notice any of the issues in the list below, when inspecting your roof surface, contact us or call 800-423-9557 immediately so we can evaluate your roof and hopefully provide a roof restoration solution so you avoid a tear-off.

  • Blisters
  • Delamination
  • Deterioration
  • Holes
  • Mechanical Abuse Areas
  • Defects on the Roof Membrane

Learn More About Coating Over Aged Single-PliesFailing Joints and SeamsMake sure all the joints and seams are undamaged, watertight and intact. Make sure to double check joint locations at walls, equipment base flashings (HVAC equipment, skylights, etc…) and near pipe penetrations. Make sure all seams holding your single-ply roofing together are working effectively. Seams need to be able to be flexible to expand and contract with the roof’s fluctuations. Seam failure can be the number one cause for damage as water can easily penetrate these areas when they begin aging, chalking and losing their durability and flexibility.

If your single-ply roof is experiencing any of these failures, you will want to consider an AcryShield Roof Maintenance (ARM) System or an AcryPly Roof Restoration System, so you don't have to replace and tear-off your roof later - this will save you thousands of dollars. What is the Best Coating to Use for an Aged TPO Roof?

Posted by Nicole Gale on Tue, May 27, 2014 @ 11:00 AM

TPO roofing has been known to be one of the hardest, most stubborn substrates to adhere to. Most roof coating manufacturers require an initial primer or etching rinse to be done before applying a base coat to the TPO membrane. Unfortunately, this adds additional labor time and costs to the roof coating project. National Coatings has made it a point to focus a majority of their efforts on providing durable, waterproofing solution to the roofing community that surpass their competition. With this goal in mind, National Coatings created the AcryShield A502 base coat, which DIRECTLY adheres to aged or failing TPO roofs without an additional primer or etching rinse.

TPO Roof

The AcryShield A502 offers the best solution in the roofing industry for restoring a TPO roof because of its ability to tenaciously and directly adhesion to the TPO membrane. The A502 base coat eliminates the need for a costly roof replacement, lowers project costs and increases job efficiencies. There is no need to capture caustic contaminated water from the primers and etching rinses, which a majority of municipalities require. This provides safer work conditions and is better for the environment.
