SPF Roofing Provides Effective Resistance to Heat Flow Transfer

SPF Roofing

As summer is coming to an end, heat flow from the hot outdoor temperatures will decrease; however, as the colder months are approaching, heat flow from the heated indoor space will begin moving outside. A well-insulated roof system can provide your commercial building with an effective heat transfer barrier. SPF Roofing Systems allow you to reduce cost and energy associated with heating a building during the winter and cooling a building during the summer due to their high R-values when compared with other roofing systems.

When a roofing system has “high R-values” that simply means the systems insulated materials have been measured to determine whether the material provides resistance to heat flow. When the testing shows the R-values are high, you know the roofing system has the ability to provide excellent insulation to your building. SPF (Spray Polyurethane Foam) Roofing Systems provide a barrier to prohibit airflow from escaping or entering the building based on their material and application. These systems are spray applied with a two-part system of polymeric isocyanate “A-Component” and a water/Enovate 3000 blown “B-Component” to create a monolithic, closed cell foam. The foam fills and seals any cracks, voids or openings on the roof, preventing heat transfer and delivering excellent insulation and waterproofing to the building.

AcryShield SPF Roof DiagramThe AcryShield® SPF Roofing Systems are excellent for new construction and restoring and improving the condition of an existing roof. Since these systems are spray applied, they can be installed over aged roofing materials such as BUR, asphalt, concrete, metal, Mod Bit, and wood substrates. The spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is applied directly over the roof deck or existing roof, a layer of AcryShield® base coat is then sprayed on top of the SPF, delivering an additional foundation layer of waterproofing with superior adhesion while providing resistance to ponded water. Next, an AcryShield® topcoat is applied, offering outstanding UV protection, longevity and brightness. These topcoats are formulated to provide superior resistance to dirt pick-up from air borne contaminants which allows the coating to remain highly reflective for the life of the warranty. Finally, a layer of RoofGuard Granules is embedded into the topcoat for appearance, impact and foot traffic protection. This improves traction across the rooftop while providing enhanced durability.

SPF Roofing is Ideal for Extreme Wind Uplift Protection and Waterproofing

Posted by Nicole Gale on Tue, Mar 03, 2015 @ 08:30 AM

hurricane-season-hurricaneHurricane season is quickly approaching beginning May 15th in the Eastern Pacific and June 1st in the Atlantic lasting through the end of November. For low sloped, commercial buildings in these regions it is important and necessary to install a roofing system that can withstand extreme wind uplift while providing waterproofing capabilities during hurricane season to guarantee protection and coverage to your building and the assets inside.

Spray polyurethane foam roofing systems or SPF roofing systems can do just that! They have excellent waterproofing capabilities and provide wind uplift protection. The SPF roof systems are sustainable and quick to install, as they are spray applied directly over your existing roof, allowing you to restore and renew your roof rather than replace it.

Waterproofing Capabilities

Download our FREE Guide on SPF Roof Coating SystemsThe spray application allows a custom slope to be created where necessary to improve and correct any water drainage and ponded water issues. Spraying each layer of the roofing system directly on the roof top also provides a 100% seamless and monolithic roofing system ensuring excellent waterproofing protection across the entire roof and especially in hard to reach and seal areas such as around rooftop equipment, skylights, pipes, drains and other items. Seamless roof membranes are flexible with an even amount of tension across the entire roof field. This is unlike systems with seams (such as single-plies), which experience a lot of tension at the joints and seams causing tears and rips to occur over time – eventually leading to water penetration into the roof deck.

Excellent Wind Uplift Protection:

SPF roof coating systems are composed of many closed-cells, which provide durable structural integrity to the roof and excellent adhesion to the roof deck and walls it is sprayed onto. These systems have such great adhesion capabilities they have been proven to withstand recent hurricanes such as Katrina and Rita and scored above average scores when tested in hurricane conditions by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) roofing provides excellent insulation and custom slope to avoid ponded water issues and improve water flow to drainage. SPF roofing systems require a roof coating to be applied over the foam in order to cover and protect the spray polyurethane foam from deteriorating due to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Learn about the Benefits of Coating an SPF Roof Download our FREE GuideNational Coatings’ offers several different types of spray foam coatings that have the ability to block and reflect essentially all of the sun’s damaging rays always from the roof top, protecting the SPF roofing system and building below.  These coatings are ideal for a newly constructed SPF roof, as well as, a SPF roof that needs a re-coat or restoration in order to prolong its roof life and lower roof maintenance costs. Our spray foam coatings all contain low levels of VOC’s, provide energy cost savings and create minimal disruption to the tenants and occupants inside the building during construction. These coatings have been successfully used on spray foam roofing systems for over 30 years, providing renewable and sustainable systems that are seamless and have outstanding waterproofing capabilities.
